Make Good Art
This article is one I immediately bookmarked. How inspirational is it to think positively of your mistakes and embrace them? I am definitely victim to beating myself up when I fail. Reading this article made me think of failure in a much lighter sense and it was refreshing. I want to try more difficult tasks and probably fail, but at least I am doing something! I don't think I have ever been more excited to make mistakes. This article actually makes me think of a podcast I was listening to recently about dark horses. There was a professor, Todd Rose that was talking about how many people are taught that there is only one way to do something, but that is simply not true. There is always another route and dark horses continue to make those mistakes until they find the right solution for them and then they run with it, usually becoming more successful and fulfilled than the person doing things by the book. We have been taught the wrong way to learn for so long. I think it is time for a change.
Let's make glorious, amazing mistakes.
Talking About Failure is Crucial For Growth. Here's How to Do It Right.
Understanding that failure is a part of life makes you see things differently. Failure is simply a part of learning. True, failure can be embarrassing, especially when something goes wrong at work or in front of a person you are trying to impress. But, this article does a great job of teaching people that it is alright to fail and accept that failure. In fact, we need to verbalize that failure to others so not only are we learning from it, but other people are too. When a boss or manager can admit to their mistakes it can help with camaraderie among peers. It is human to make mistakes, so when someone that is higher up the ladder can admit to that it helps subordinates feel on the same level, which can eliminate bad feelings towards a superior. I also learned from this article that there are smart ways to admit that you messed up. Instead of talking about all of the things that went wrong with an assignment it would be more beneficial to ask about how to fix the problem. People like to help and co-workers have a more positive opinion of you when you do request help. In the end, if we do not talk about and learn from our mistakes we will never grow.
