Reading Congo Unit: Part A

Bib: Congo Unit written by Richard Edward Dennett

Three wives : the Dreamer, the Guide, and the Raiser of the Dead

Husband : Nenpetro
            He is a good hunter

He kills an antelope and monkey but the wives are not satisfied. The husband realizes he must capture something larger, an ox. When he goes to slay this animal another kills him. The Dreamer dreams that the husband has been killed by an ox so they go to search him out. The Guide helps them find the husband and the Raiser of the Dead brings the husband to life. While he is rousing the women make food for him.

How Gazelle Got Married

Nenpetro has two beautiful daughters and promises to not marry them to anyone unless they can guess their names.

Nsassi: A Gazelle that really thinks the two daughters are lovely but he cannot figure out their names.

Dog: Nsassi’s dog who is very loyal and cares for his owner’s happiness

The dog overhears Nenpetro calling his daughter’s names and runs back to tell Nsassi. He gets  very hungry along the way and eats a cat but then forgets the girls names. The dog then goes back to be reminded of their names. The girls feed the dog and then goes on home very happy to tell him owner the news. On the way home the dog became very thirsty and stopped at a river to take a long drink, got distracted and once again forgot the names. Again, the dog comes back to the daughters and gets their names this time the daughters giving him both water and food. This time the dog did not stop and went straight to Nsassi. He greeted him with much joy and asked him where he had been. The dog then relayed the names to Nsassi so he could be happy. On they went to find the daughters. On the way they became very thirsty and stopped to get water and once again forgot the names. Nsassi had the dog go back and get the names again. FINALLY, they both go to Nenpetro’s daughters and tells them their names. He is then rewareded the two sisters.
In the end of this story Nsassi kills the Antelope and I am just going to leave that out because it is random.
Maybe because it took so much time and effort to find the names it is the reason why the father made it that way. Making sure the man to be with his daughters was willing to try hard.
[ please change this story. It is so redundant

The Vanishing wife

Swarmi: wealthy brother, married, not kind to his brother, was not a giver

Buite: simple , poor brother, lonely ,

Swarmi was not kind to his brother and did not share any of his wealth. Buite ate kernels from the palm everyday. One day he decided he did not belong there so he left going deep into the woods. There he slept and had a dream of going to a river and finding a beautiful woman that told him to knock on the ground three times and  a canoe popped up. Again, and oars popped up. The woman told him to catch fish but chop off their heads because she could not bear to see them.  When Buite woke he did what his dream showed him. He went to the river knocked on the ground three times and then the canoe. He went out and caught fish and removed their heads and returned back where he had slept. When he was walking back he realized where there had been nothing now stood a house with servants and most importantly his beautiful wife. He was happy for a while but got tired of cutting the heads off of the fish so one time he did not. The servant boy told he must for his wife truly disliked this. He said no but then ran after the boy the cut the heads off. He did this a few more times. One day he took too long and did not grab the boy in time. The boy gave the fish to his wife without removing their heads. When this happened everything vanished before Buite’s eyes.

The Jealous wife

There were two wives and a husband. The husband went out to do some trading while the two wives had their children. It was about time for the husband to come back so the two women decided to catch some fish to cook for his return. They could not both go at the same time because they had to look after the children so the wives went one at a time to fish. The elder wife was jealous because the younger wife’s child was smarter than hers so she decided she would kill her child while she was away fishing and get it over with. While the young wife was away she snuck to where the child normally slept and killed it. She woke the next morning to look at what she had done and realized she had killed her own child. She was deeply anguished and ran away with the child. The other child saw this happen and told its mother. When the father found out he could not believe it so he had some of his men go and search for the elder wife and child. They were finally found with the mother asking, “why won’t you wake?” The father then poisoned her heart and burnt her.

Introduction to the plant fiend

Image of myself My name is Lindsi Unsell. I am a senior at The University of Oklahoma and I am studying Communications. All of my Communication classes have been so interesting and relevant to everyday life. I have actually noticed myself become a better communicator and have been more aware of how others communicate around me. As a senior, I am both excited and nervous to have such limited time in school left. I feel so happy that I have come this far successfully and I can see the light at the end of this stressful yet rewarding tunnel. I also work at The Oklahoma Daily as a copy editor and hope to try my hand at some writing for the newspaper this final semester. The Daily has been one of the most rewarding things I have done at OU. I have met a niche group of people that help me connect with others outside of school that I may not have gotten the chance to meet otherwise. I love being a part of the school newspaper because I feel so much more aware of events going on locall

Week 7 Story: Grotto of Lust

Author's note: This story was originally told as the Grotto of Love. In this story was a man that became bored and resorted to other pleasures. These pleasures were among the sea with a siren. I will keep with the same story but change the ending and the character names and a few traits. Grotto of Lust Leorio, as with many who are given too much in life, was dissatisfied. Leorio had the most beautiful and loyal wife, Setsu, but he tired of her constant presence. In his boredom he began to think of a siren he once saw, but could not catch. She had a voice that could make tears prick your eyes and a beauty that surpassed anyone Leorio had ever set his eyes upon. He sat and thought about the way she sang and played her lute effortlessly. It all became a dizzying daydream and he could not bare the thoughts any longer. He left his wife without a thought and made his way to the emerald sea where she lived.  Once his feet sunk into the sand and he breathed in the salty air he b
